Method / Poster Booklet

Harmonious & incongruous Method

With one poem, one photographer, and a historical typeface we were assigned to create a double-sided poster that also worked as a booklet. One side was to be harmonious, and the other side needed to be incongruous.

The Poem I chose was "Method" by John Cage, a poem that follows the prose form he called “mesostic” which is a poem, in which middle letters in each line form a word or words.

To go with this poem, I chose Michel Wolfs photography series "architecture of density." A photography style aimed to document the rural areas of Hong Kong.

The historical typeface used for this project is Times New Roman. A typeface designers often look down upon because of its reputation / convention of being a default corporate typeface. A redrawn version of the original typeface Times.

“If something is boring after two minutes, try it for four. If still boring, then eight. Then sixteen. Then thirty-two. Eventually one discovers that it is not boring at all.”
